Discover Ballet & Opera

The Royal Ballet and Opera commissioned this series of films to broadcast during their live Discover lessons and annual event Create Day.

Aimed at pupils watching in classrooms around the UK, we knew these had to be attention-grabbing, playful and sometimes surprising celebrations of the workers behind the scenes. Apprentices & other key members of staff across departments fronted the films, bringing a lived experience and youthful exuberance to the storytelling.

The challenge of a project like this is access.

We needed to get into spaces across the House and its workshop in Essex – taking planning, personalities and safety into account. We collaborated closely with the Learning & Participation team to achieve this, covering every major department, including ones with limited access like the Flys and Armoury.

The end result? A suite of films that engaged over 10,000 pupils in schools across the country – and a bank of footage with evergreen applications for RBO.
